Daylight Savings Time

It's only the beginning of March... seems strange to me to have to bring our clocks forward this early in the year. At least it'll be nice to leave work and still have daylight outside. That, and the fact that this is an indication of spring being right around the corner, is why I've always liked daylight savings. The only downside is losing the hour of sleep into Sunday, but I can live with that given the extra sunlight in the evenings for the next seven months.

A study was conducted that shows daylight savings time actually raises our utility bills: http://tech.yahoo.com/blog/null/83073. I'm not so sure about the merits of the study, since it appears to have been concentrated in Indiana, where the entire state finally went to daylight savings for the first time in 2006. A study on one state is not representative of the rest of the US, since the use of heat and air conditioning (or lack of) would vary depending on which part of the country you're in. I don't have an opinion either way on whether daylight savings actually conserves energy, but I'm sure a study in the south or the northeast where there are climatic differences from Indiana may have yielded conflicting results. In any case, don't forget to turn your clocks forward this weekend. Have a great one, my loyal (or perhaps bored) readers!
