I usually take big sister K to a kid-friendly place called Snip-Its in Princeton to get her hair cut. She's long overdue for one, so I was planning to take her this Friday, when my half-day Fridays start. Last week, I went onto the Snip-Its website and much to my dismay, I learned that the Princeton location no longer existed. During the car ride home that day, I told big sister K that we couldn't go to Snip-Its anymore because they closed down. Maybe I should've waited to deliver the news to her, but big sister K did not take it well at all. She started crying like there was no tomorrow... you would've thought something devastating had happened (though in her eyes, something probably did). I eventually got her to calm down, but was still shocked by her reaction. She didn't mind canceling the Disney trip (and for that, I am very thankful), but not being able to go to her favorite hair salon, she has a major breakdown. I don't get it.
I tried looking for other haircutting places in the area that cater to young kids, but had no luck. I also asked big sister K's teacher at daycare if she had any recommendations, and she referred me to Supercuts (not exactly what I had in mind). Big sister K refuses to let me cut her bangs anymore, so I'm hoping I can find a new place by Friday to bring her to. Anyone have any suggestions?

Von Thun Farms
We went to Von Thun Farms for their annual Kids Day yesterday. It was early afternoon by the time we got there and misting a little, so most people had already left (I was happy we avoided the crowd). It worked out quite nicely for us because we got to enjoy most of the activities at the farm and the rain waited until we were safely back in the car before it started to really come down.
The kids got to see some farm animals, they went around in a straw maze, big sister K bounced in an inflatable house, and they also got to go on different types of pedal cars. Baby M was too small for most of them and couldn't reach the pedal, but that didn't stop him from trying. Big sister K had a blast zooming up and down the different courses.

HUG!
A few nights ago, I yelled at big sister K for not listening. She got upset and started crying in the living room. The rest of the family was in the kitchen, including baby M. We had the safety gate closed between the kitchen and the living room, so he couldn't get through. Once I opened the gate, he ran to big sister K and gave her a big hug, not letting go for a few seconds. I'm used to big sister K showing her love and affection for her baby brother, but to see it the other way around... wow!
My two babies... LOVE THEM!

Road Trip to DC
Since we didn't make it to Disney this past week, we ended up scheduling a last-minute trip to Washington DC (hotel was booked a mere two days before our departure). We headed out mid-morning on Thursday, stopped for lunch in Maryland (or it could've been Delaware... I lose track), which ended up being an hour and a half detour due to the multiple bathroom trips for the two kids. Why is it that kids can't get all their business taken care of in one trip to the potty? I took big sister K to the restrooms, brought her back to finish lunch with M, then took baby M to get his diaper changed, came back only to find out that big sister K had to use the bathroom again, then when we returned baby M pooped... and it's just a vicious cycle! Oh the joys of parenthood! In any event, we finally ended up in DC by mid-afternoon. After checking in at the Hilton Garden Inn, we made a quick trip to the National Museum of Natural History. Big sister K enjoyed seeing all the animals there, particularly the dinosaurs. I was quite impressed that she was able to correctly name the different types, considering we never really talked about them at home... she knew T-Rex, Triceratops, and even pointed out which one was Stegosaurus.
Friday was spent mostly at the National Zoo. Baby M napped briefly in the stroller after lunch, but big sister K didn't, so she was exhausted by the time we took the metro back to the Smithsonian museums. We went to the National Air and Space Museum, but big sister K got fussy and wanted to leave, so our visit was cut short. We then made our way to the flags that surround the Washington Monument... we had driven by it when we first got to DC on Thursday and for some reason, she was obsessed with the flags and kept wanting to go there. The poor girl was so tired she fell asleep in the stroller on our way there. I woke her up when we arrived. After two days of asking to see the flags, she simply said, "Okay, I see them... we can go now." Talk about anticlimactic...
I don't know if traveling with an active toddler boy is just asking for trouble, but I'm fearful of our next stay at a hotel room. Last year when we went to Disney, baby M fell off the bed. This time, he ran at full speed right into the corner of the bathroom door, resulting in a lot of crying and a huge bump/cut on his head (yes, ouch!). Are all boys just naturally more injury-prone than girls, or is mine an exception?
