I just got a call from baby K's teacher, Ashlie at daycare. I found this so funny I couldn't resist sharing:

[Scene: Baby K was playing with a brown baby doll, which apparently she does pretty often.]
Ashlie: K, why are you always playing with the brown doll? Do you like the brown doll?
Baby K: Yes.
Ashlie: Who else is brown?
Baby K: Tanya is brown.
[Note: Tanya is one of baby K's classmates, who is Indian.]
Ashlie: That's right. Who else is brown? Is Jaimie brown?
Baby K: No.
[Note: Jaimie is one of baby K's teachers, who is Caucasian.]
Ashlie: Is K brown?
Baby K: No.
Ashlie: Is Ashlie brown?
Baby K: No.
[Note: Ashlie is African-American.]
Ashlie: Ashlie isn't brown?? What color is Ashlie?
Baby K: Ashlie is black!
