All Animals Look Alike

I was so proud of baby K when she first learned to say "wo wo" and related it to a dog (or so I thought). At grandma's place, she'd point to Sunny and JayJay and say "wo wo" as they tried to lick her. While walking down the street, she'd see a dog in a distance, stop short in her tracks, point to the dog, and yell out "wo wo!" But mind you, it has to be a real dog. Showing her a stuffed animal or a picture of a puppy would not yield the same response.

Over the weekend, we were playing outside the house. Baby K sees some birds land on our front lawn and exclaims "wo wo!" Try as we might, we could not get her to say the word "bird." Then M points to a rabbit nibbling on some grass across the street and tells baby K it's a bunny, but she stares at it and goes "wo wo." A minute later, baby K sees a squirrel run up a tree, she chases after it, and shouts "wo wo!" We kept telling her no, it's a squirrel, but she insisted on calling the furry rat "wo wo." Hey, if grown adults can stereotype and say all Asians look alike, who am I to disillusion my little toddler's view that all animals look alike?
