There's an interesting article on Yahoo News about a new diet fad in Japan that has resulted in a shortage of bananas throughout the country. Supply for this fruit cannot keep up with the increase in demand, even with an increase in imports by upward of 25%. "The Morning Banana Diet regime is simple: A banana (or as many as you want) and room temperature water for breakfast; eat anything you like for lunch and dinner (by 8 p.m.). A three o'clock snack is okay, but no desserts after meals, and you have to go to bed before midnight." Apparently, this has proven to work for some people in Japan, but there are so many other variables to consider. If you're already eating a healthy, well-balanced diet, chances are limiting your breakfast intake to only bananas won't have much of an effect.
In any case, this diet seems harmless enough, but when I read about a 21-year old university student weighing less than 100 pounds ("[she] is so slim that her waist is swimming in Zara's smallest size XS skirt") trying to get into this diet, I just get disgusted. I'm sure the girl already looks anorexic, and yet she is trying to slim herself down even more. If she lost any more weight, there'd be nothing left! I don't understand it... I just don't. But then again, I suppose self-esteem is all about how we view ourselves, not about how others view us. The article goes on the say that this is a fad that will probably go away in a month or so, similar to the many other diets that have come and gone.

that's interesting...in that sometimes my breakfast (when i get the chance to eat it) consists of a banana and some water (or papaya and some water...or rice crackers and water)... but yes, i agree with you about how disturbing it is for an adult woman to be under 100 lbs (or even be at 100lbs)...guess we all perceive ourselves differently...sadly, sometimes through lenses tainted w/ the culturual propaganda from beauty magazines....
