Anniversary Lunch

My 5-year anniversary with the company I currently work at is coming up in a week. The admin approached me a couple of days ago and informed me that I have approximately $100 to spend on a lunch, and to let her know who should be invited so she could set it up. I wouldn't be able to get a decent meal with more than four people at that price! I was originally planning to have everyone in my boss' department go to lunch, but that's seven people... with appetizers and entree, it'll come out to more than $15 per person, unless we go for pizza or something. But I'm not about to waste a free lunch on pizza. It would be nice if I could just pocket the cash, but no such luck. I remember people use to be able to order a gift out of a catalog (in addition to the lunch) at their milestone anniversary, but with all the cost cutting initiatives they've had, I doubt the program is still going on. I guess the lunch is at least better than nothing... now I just have to figure out who to invite... and where to go.

Update:
Updates to my original blog seem to be a trend today. Not long after this blog entry was posted, the admin came by and asked me about setting up lunch again. I told her I haven't decided yet. The cap is so limited that I really don't know who to include. And it's lame just to have a one-on-one lunch with my boss. Any suggestions?

hmm. would everyone on your team be willing to shell out $5-$7 for a nice $20 lunch? I think it would be nice to take the whole team...if they don't mind shelling out some money :) If they ate on their own, $7 will get them a $7 lunch..but w/ your $100, their $7 can buy a nice lunch (at least $20-23) :) ....(unless my math is off..)

thanks for the suggestion! i'm just afraid if we go with that option, my boss will end up paying for the difference herself and not let us split it, and i'd feel bad having her do that. hmm.. let me mull it over some more.

weeeelll, if she pays for the difference..it's isn't that bad :) it's like her showing you her appreciation...+ appreciation for a great team! sounds like you are in a good team where everyone is friends and supportive of one another. as a manager, i am sure she will be happy to have this reason to "treat" everyone and celebrate your 5th year :)

i think it's the chinese in me... i can't allow other ppl to pay for stuff. =P

ok, you are gonna neeeeed to drop the chinese part of you for about 90 mins so you can enjoy a lunch that other ppl pay for :) let's look at it this way...by not letting them "pay" for it or treat you, you are not allowing them to express their appreciation for you..sorta like not giving them a chance to "gift" you..... 8-) come on..i know they want to take you out! you are a great person to have on any team!!!! (i know it first hand!)

lunch at TGIF (i originally picked another restaurant, but the admin came back to me and said it was too expensive, so i just told her to pick). i decided not to do my boss' current team. invite list was narrowed to 5 people: myself, my current boss, someone else who use to report in to her, the person who first hired me into the company, and a key player in getting me into this dept 2 yrs ago. i figured these ppl had a major role in getting me to where i am.
