Baby M at Daycare

Here are some pictures that the daycare took of baby M last Tuesday (his second day there):

Rollover

Baby M rolled over for the first time yesterday, and we all missed it! I put him in his crib last night lying on his back, and this morning I found him on his stomach. He's been shifting his whole body to one side for the past week, so I knew that any day now, he'd be able to flip over; I just didn't think he'd do it in the middle of the night. In addition to rolling over to his stomach, he also turned 180 degrees around in the crib, facing the other way when I went to pick him up. Baby M is so active... no doubt we will have our hands full once he gets mobile!

First Day

Today was my first day back at work, which meant it was also baby M's first day at daycare. He did really well (or so I was told), and I am quite proud of myself for only calling once to check on him (and I didn't even go visit him in person!). Of course, it helped that they called to tell me how he was doing and also e-mailed me a few pictures they took of him. As long as he's fed, burped, and changed, he's good to go, so mentally I know this transition is harder on me than it is on him. Nothing much has changed from three years ago when big sister K started her stint in the infant wing of this daycare center, so it's just a matter of me getting to know baby M's new caregivers (he's in a different class than his big sister was in). Maybe I'll stop in during lunch one of these days to see how he's really doing.

First Fever

I brought baby M to the doctor for his four-month visit yesterday. He's grown three pounds in two months, now weighing 14 lbs. 5 oz. His weight and height (24.5 inches) are at the 45 percentile while the circumference of his head is slightly bigger at 70% (though call me biased, but baby M looks perfectly proportional to me).

Baby M got the same vaccinations he did at his two month visit (Pentacel, Prevnar, and the rotovirus vaccine which is taken orally). He showed no adverse reaction the first time around, but last night he developed a fever. I took his axillary temperature (under the arm) and it came up to 100.6 (this method tends to give a lower and less accurate reading, so the recommendation is to add one degree to it). I gave baby M some acetaminophen, but he was still very fussy and cried nonstop for a few hours. He finally fell asleep after taking his last bottle for the night (probably exhausted from all the crying). Surprisingly, baby M was able to sleep through the night, and fortunately his fever was gone by the morning.

Teething & Thumb-Sucker

Baby M is not four months old yet, but has started teething a few weeks ago already. His symptoms: constant drooling, refusal to eat (there were one or two times where he went more than nine hours without eating! oh my!), irritability (though that's normal for him), diaper rash, and sucking on his lips/gums. Some of the symptoms have subsided and I don't see any pearly whites poking through yet, but I did feel something hard in his upper gums when I put my finger there a few weeks ago.

Despite my earlier resistence (we never had to use one for big sister K), we tried giving baby M a pacifier to hopefully ease his discomfort (and to give our ears a break from the crying), but he didn't seem to like it; he just ended up spitting it out. Recently, he's discovered his left hand and has started sucking on his thumb. I take it out of his mouth every time I see it in there, only to have him scream bloody murder (not a big deal when we're home, but it can cause quite a scene when in public). He only sucks on his left thumb though. Perhaps baby M will be a lefty like daddy.

This is one of my favorite videos. Puts a smile on my face every time I watch it. =)

My Little Dancer

Here's another video of big sister K for your viewing pleasure. She is dancing to Toby Mac's "City On Our Knees." Again, she's got the whole "cheese, smile!" thing going. I love this girl!

Guess the Song

I have no idea what she is singing, but this practically had me in tears. Apparently the song is from a Disney CD that she listens to in school (any guesses?). I love how resourceful my little girl is, using legos as a microphone. My favorite part is at the end, when all of a sudden she goes, "cheese, smile!"
